Dewey's Turkey Hunt

I have been turkey hunting with John Hower since 2003 after locating him on an internet hunting swap site. I was a little skeptical at first by taking a shot in the dark with an internet swap, but upon my first meeting with John, I came to believe what he had told me in our email and phone conversations. John is an honest young man with an enjoyable personality and the ability to make you feel like you have known him forever and who has lots of turkeys to hunt and a multitude of different locations to hunt without over hunting one certain spot..

We have enjoyed a high success rate year after year, by either scoring 200% on mature birds or having the opportunity for a shot on a second bird. Everyone who has gone with me to Twin Lakes has thoroughly enjoyed the hunting and the hometown feel of Council Grove. For me, it is a 1400 mile round trip. We actually made two trips one year so that I could carry my 15 year old son back in late May and get him a bird. I have had the opportunity to take 2 birds with 1 shot and also to take my first multi-bearded turkey at Twin Lakes. I plan to continue to hunt at Twin Lakes for many years.

As far as the deer hunting, I have not had an opportunity to deer hunt at Twin Lakes, but have seen many large bodied deer with velvet horns out past their ears in mid to late April and I found a dead deer that had 14 points(no drops or stickers) 15’ inside spread that I rough scored at 147 and aged at 3 1/2 . If you have any questions or concerns about hunting at Twin Lakes, just tell John to give you my phone # and I will be glad to talk.

Sincerely,

Dewey Rhodes Jr.
